COMPETITION GERMAN EMBASSY IN CAIRO 2014

What is striking about the task and the plot is the correspondence between the quality of the outdoor space in the area of the plot facing the Nile and the use of the residence. For this reason, the site was effectively divided in the design into the western area, which, with the residence and garden, provides a dignified and classical approach to the prestigious, high-quality exterior and structural part of the task, and the eastern area, which allows the working environment of the law firm a compact, clearly visible and expressive appearance. The design attempts to give the respective usage and security units readable structures, which, however, merge into a uniform architectural appearance in the overall structure. While the house in the garden dominates the western part, the eastern part of the property is designed like a city in miniature, interlocking courtyards, small gardens and various locations in order to assign a special location to each content area.
The site is accessed via a single security gate; only the visa office has its own access, including a gate and shaded waiting areas both outside and inside the site. The external and internal visa areas are connected to each other so that public traffic can be handled in stages as required, but staff can move freely between areas internally. The entrances to the representative part of the residence and the chancellery are located directly opposite each other. The foyer of the residence is on the upper floor and can be used for internal meetings and events. All floors of the chancellery have outdoor areas that are integrated into the building structure as loggias to provide shade.
