NURSERY
COMPETITION NURSERY IN RÜTI 2017
The two-storey building is situated in the eastern part of the site, gently set into the hillside.
The elevated position and square floor plan emphasize the independence of the new building. At the same time, the restrained, flowing exterior design and orientation follows the logic of open development and establishes a connection with the neighbourhood.
The minimal intervention in the environment creates generous and cohesive open spaces for experience, movement and recreation.
Following the local concept of a solitaire, the building is designed and constructed monolithically. Due to the topographically exposed site, the first floor is gently embedded into the terrain. This provides a clear spatial demarcation of the otherwise fully glazed building on the west and east sides, and creates a protected space.
The group and main rooms on the first floor are fully lined with wood like traditional parlours, while the rooms on the upper floor, which are less directly related to nature and therefore much more abstract, remain unlined.
The structural concrete walls ensure the stability of the structure in the event of an earthquake and brace the building. In order to create the desired changeability of the spatial structure and make it visible, the finishing is done with wooden walls that can be deconstructed.
